Effect of Planting Density on Yield and Quality of Tobacco Leaf

[Objective] The aim was to determine the most optimum transplanting density for flue-cured tobacco and increase the economic benefit of planting tobacco.[Method] With Yunyan 85 as the tested material,3 densities of 1.5×104,1.8×104,2.1×104 plants/hm2 were designed.The agronomic characters of flue-cured tobacco such as plant height,leaf number,stem thickness,length and width of lumbar and apical leaves were observed and recorded and the tobacco yield,output value,average price,the ratio of fine tobacco,middle grade tobacco and orange-yellow tobacco in each treatment were calculated.[Result] With the increase of planting density,the effective leaf number,stem thickness,the length and width of lumbar leaf showed a decreasing trend.The economic character such as output value and yield of treatment with 1.8×104 plant/hm2 in Pingpu site was the best.In Gandong site,the yield of treatment with 2.1×104 plant/hm2 was the highest and the output value of treatment with 1.8×104 plant/hm2 was the highest.[Conclusion] The most optimum planting density of flue-cured tobacco in higher fertility soil was 1.5×104-1.8×104 plant/hm2,and that in middle and low fertility soil was 1.8×104-2.1×104 plant/hm2.
