Effects of Aluminum Toxicity on Growth of Soybean Root

[Objective]The aim was to study the effect of aluminum toxicity on growth of soybean root,and probe into the mitigative effect to aluminum toxicity.[Method]With 10-day-old soybean seedlings as the tested material,the effects of different pH value and Al3+ concn.on the growth of soybean root by using Hoagland nutrient solution for culture and test,and the antagonism of Ca2+ and Mg2+on Al3+ were studied.[Result] When the pH was 3.5,the poisoning effect of Al3+ was most significant.The effect of pH on ion uptake showed mainly by root surface,especially the charge changes on cell wall and the competition of charge changes with cations of Ca2+,Mg2+ etc.Under the pH of 3.5,the higher the Al3+ concn.was,the larger the poisoning effect was.When the Al3+ concn.was more than 0.5mmol/L,the poisoning function of Al3+ on soybean root was most severe.The variance analysis showed that the concn.of Ca2+ and Mg2+ might relieve the poisoning effect of Al3+ on plant root.[Conclusion] The poisoning effect of aluminum on soybean root could be decreased by adjusting the physiological state and applying all kinds of fertilizer scientifically in accordance with soil character.
