Study on the Interaction between Microorganisms and Heavy Metals

WU Hai-jiang et al(School of Life Science and Engineering,Southwest Jiaotong University,Chengdu,Sichuan 610031)  
Many microorganisms demonstrate resistance to metals.Mainly five metal resistance mechanisms exist:cell surface adsorption,active transportation of the metal from the microorganism,intracellular sequestration of metals,extra cellular precipitation,enzymatic detoxification of a metal to a less toxic form.Genes located on chromosomes,plasmids,or transposons encoding specific resistance to a variety of metal ions.At last,common resistant strains for heavy metal were introduced,the study and application was summarized.
