Effects of Ultraviolet Radiation on the Protein Contents of Three Marine Micro-algae Species

[Objective]The reference for the improvement of protein content of single cell marine algae as feed was provided through UV-induced mutation breeding method.[Method]The Dunaliella sp.,Phaeodactylum tricornutum and Isochrysis galbana Zhanjiang etc were irradiated by the ultraviolet with the wavelength of 253.7 nm for 0,2,4,6,8 and 10 minutes,respectively and the effect of the treatments on their protein content was analyzed through the deter mination of their contents.[Results]Compared with the CK,the content of protein in Dunaliella sp.appeared a downward trend(6.70 mg/g to 2.32 mg/g) after UV irradiation.The content of protein in Phaeodactylum tricornutum was increased in the treatment from 2 to 10 minutes,among which the treatment of 2 minutes' irradiation promoted the largest content of protein(up to 5.28 mg/g);the content of protein in Zhanjiang and other Isochrysis galbanas that were treated for 2,4 and 6 minutes were 653%,737% and 153% significantly more than that of the CK and the irradiation of 8-10 minutes caused their death.[Conclusion]The effect of UV irradiation on the protein content of different species was different.
