[Objective] The study was to provide the scientific basis for the development and utilization of Chinese herbal medicinal ingredients gardenia.[Method] The fruits of gardenia were pretreated by microwave digestion. The contents of B,Ca,Co,Cr,Cu,Fe,K,Mg,Mn,Na,P,Se,Si,Zn in the fruits were measured by inductively coupled plasma atomic emission spectrometry.[Results]The contents of trace elements in the fruit of gardenia was high. The concn.of each element had linear relationship with its emission intensity. The average content of 14 kinds of trace element in order was:K (12 032.75 μg/g),Ca ( 7 206.17 μg/g),Mg (4 229.13μg/g),P (1 624.70 μg/g),Na (96.12 μg/g),Fe (81.08 μg/g),Si (26.78 μg/g),Mn (18.71 μg/g),B (17.11 μg/g),Cu (6.32 μg/g),Zn (5.49 μg/g),Se (2.14 μg/g),Cr (1.52 μg/g),Co (0 μg/g ).[Conclusion] This study established a method of measuring trace elements in gardenia by microwave digestion-ICP-AES,and the method was rapid, accurate with high analysis accuracy.
