Study on the Changes of Physiological Indices of Eggplant Seeds in the Growth Period

[Objective] The research aimed to study the changes of physiological indices of eggplant seeds in the growth period and provide the theoretical basis for the fast propagation of new variety seeds. [Method] After 15 days after anthesis,the changes of fresh weight,dry weight,moisture content,soluble starch content,soluble sugar content and soluble protein content of the seeds were determined every 5 days. [Result] The moisture content of seeds was decreasing during the growth period. Dry matter accumulated rapidly in early development stage of seed. Soluble sugar content reached its peak on the 45th day after blooming,then began to decrease slowly. Starch accumulated rapidly on the 35th day after blooming,then began to increase slowly. Soluble protein content changes showed bimodal curves and appeared peaks on the 25th day and 40th day of the bloom stage,then began to decrease. The seeds of eggplant had the germination ability on the 50th day of bloom stage,soluble sugar,starch,soluble protein content and dry matter accumulation all reached their peak at this time. Different indices of eggplant had very significant difference with control cultivar,but its organitc matter accumlation level was lower than CK.[Conclusion] On the 50th day after blooming,the eggplant seeds reached their physiological maturity.
