Origin of Agriculture and Evolution of Chinese Early Civilization

YANG Xiao-jing (School of Environmental Science and Engineering,Peking University,Beijing 100871)  
Agriculture is the main sector of social production in early human society.Combination of appropriate crops and specific natural environment led to the emergence of civilization.The Central Plains region in Yellow River Basin is the birthplace of millet grain.Suitable Holocene climate and favorable environmental conditions of the Yellow River region contributed to this area the formation of millet agriculture and bred in the Central Plains of China the earliest civilizations.
