Investigation on Trend of Water Pollution in the Beijing-Hangzhou Grand Canal in Yangzhou

The water quality of the Beijing-Hangzhou Grand Canal in Yangzhou from 1986 to 2008 was detected with BP neutral network model.The simulated data of the water quality showed that in recent 20 years,the water quality varied between grade III and grade IV,and the main pollution item was eutrophication.The main pollution indicators became worse in these years,which showed that Yangzhou had made some progress in controlling the water pollution.Based on the data calculated by BP neutral network model,pollution indicators in the Beijing-Hangzhou Grand Canal in the future were predicted.The concentrations of CODMn and NH3-N will increase to about 4.19 and 0.88 mg/L,respectively.The biochemical oxygen demand will decrease to about 1.78 mg/L.Much work is needed to deal with water pollution.We proposed that more attention should be paid to restoring the ability of water self-clean in addition to implementing the macro policy in order to control water pollution.To develop green economy and to restore the ability of water self-clean should be the best way for long-term control of water pollution.
