Effect of Different Concentrations of Cadmium on Basil Growth and the Absorption and Accumulation of Cadmium

[Objective] The aim was to discuss the effects of different concentrations(0,1,5,10 mg/L)of cadmium on basil growth and absorption and accumulation of cadmium.[Method] On the basis of Hoagland nutrition,with basil as tested material,the effects of different concentrations of cadmium on basil growth,absorption and accumulation of cadmium as well as contents of solubility sugar,total nitrogen,total phosphorous and total kalium were studied.[Result] Low cadmium concentration(1 mg/L) promoted the growth of basil,and the accumulation of fresh weight and dry weight about aboveground parts of basil,conversely,high cadmium concentrations(5 and 10 mg/L) inhibited the growth of basil plant,fresh weight and dry weight about belowground parts of basil.With the increasing of cadmium concentration,content of chlorophyll had the trend of reducing,and lower than that of CK.Content of solubility sugar aboveground had the trend of increasing,and higher than that of CK,while content of solubility sugar belowground was lower than CK markedly.Contents of total nitrogen,total phosphorous and total kalium aboveground were higher than those of belowground.Absorption and accumulation of cadmium increased with cadmium concentration adding.[Conclusion] Basil was an aromatic plant with potential cadmium accumulative ability.
