Research Progress of Biological Soil Crusts Photosynthesis in Arid and Semiarid Regions

JIA Zi-yi et al(Institute of Desertification Studies,Chinese Academy of Forestry,Beijing 100091)
Biological soil crusts(BSC) exist in arid and semiarid regions around the world. They may play an important role in the global carbon exchange for they can carry on photosynthesis. In the paper, the morphology structure characteristics of BSC have been overviewed and the regulation of water and temperature on photosynthesis of BSC has been discussed, then photosynthesis rates of different kinds and successional stages of BSC have been compared. Finally, the question on how to estimate the amount of carbon dioxide fixation of BSC has been analyzed.
