Analysis of Land Use Change Based on RS and GIS

RS and GIS have become effective means to monitoring land use change.According to the TM images in Longquan District of Chengdu in 2000 and 2008,with the support of RS and GIS,its land use change information was extracted through constructing the water and vegetation index by visual interpreting,then based on the filed survey,the classification results was revised.As indicated by the results,the cultivated area in the study area during 2000-2008 decreased by 6 105.92 hm2,the garden land area increased by 3 236.89 hm2,the woodland area decreased by 3 568.78 hm2,the construction area increased by 6 555.42 hm2,waters reduced by 571.25 hm2,and the unused area increased by 453.64 hm2.It was discovered through analysis that the land use change was mainly caused by government policy guidance,regional economic development and population growth.
