An Empirical Study of the Relationships between Cognitive Styles and English Achievements

CAO Hai-ying (School of Foreign Language,Jinling Institute of Technology,Nanjing 210004,Jiangsu,China)  
The examination of students' cognitive styles through a cognitive style figure test and a questionnaire shows that field-dependent style is more favorable for listening achievements,while field-independent style is more favorable for reading,vocabulary and cloze achievements.Students should choose proper cognitive style to adapt themselves to different learning tasks.
