CATALYTIC DECOLORANT SPECTROPHOTOMETRIC DETERMINATION OF TRACE IRON IN HUMAN HAIR AND CEREALS

Based on catalytic edffect of ferrous ion on oxidizing declolrization of sunset yellow by hydrogen peroxide in a weak acidic medium at pH 4.0, a new method has been developed for the determination of trace iron by catalytic decolorant spectrophotometry, The correct condition of the method has been studied. The detection limit and liner range are 9.1×10 -7 g/L Fe(Ⅲ) and 0～1.25μg/25ml Fe(Ⅲ) respectively. The method has been applied to the determination of trace iron in human hair and cereals with satisfactory result.
