REMOVAL OF ANIONIC DYES FROM AQUEOUS SOLUTION BY BIOSORPTION ON KOHLRABI PEEL

In this paper, a low-cost, locally available raw material used as sorbent for its removal anionic dyes from aqueous solution was investigated. Granule prepared from kohlrabi peel had been used for biosorption of three anionic dyes,i.e Amaranth (Am), Sunset yellow (SY), Light green (SF). Biosorption studies were carried out under varying experimental conditions of initial pH, sorbent dosage, ion strength, dye concentration, particle size and contact time. The optimal pH for favorable sorption of dyes were pH2. The sorption equilibriums were reached at about 36h. The equilibrium data could be described well by the Langmuir isotherm equation. The biosorption processes followed the pseudo-first-order rate kinetics.
