Electrocatalytic Oxidation of Glucose at Glass Carbon Electrode Modified with Cobalt Nanoparticles Supported on Carbon Nanotubes

Cobalt nanoparticles with average diameters about 21 nm and face-centered cubic(fcc) structure were uniformly attached on the surface of the carbon nanotubes(Co/CNTs) by wet chemistry,which were characterized by X-ray powder diffraction(XRD) and transmission electron microscopy(TEM).A glass carbon electrode modified with cobalt-decorated carbon nanotubes(Co-CNTs/GCE) was prepared. The electrochemical behavior of Co-CNTs/GCE and the electrocatalytic oxidation of glucose were investigated by cyclic voltammetry(CV) and electrochemical impedance(EIS) in 1.0 mol/ L NaOH solution.The cyclic voltammetry and electrochemical impedance results indicate that the Co-CNTs/GCE possesses both electrochemical-controlled and diffusion-controlled quasi-reversible process,and highly catalytic activity for the electro-oxidation of glucose in alkaline medium.
