Intervention Study on AIDS KAP among CSWs in Entertainment Sites in Lu'an City

Objective To identify the changes of AIDS knowledge,attitude and practice(KAP) among commercial sex workers(CSWs) in entertainment sites in Lu'an city in order to provide information for making decision on AIDS prevention and control strategies.Methods After indepth interviews and structured questionnaire interviews,intervention activities including heath education,condom promotion,voluntary counseling and testing(VCT) services,were implemented among CSWs in entertainment sites in Lu'an city.An assessment was conducted after intervention using the same questionnaire.Results The KAP level was different among different sites and the KAP level at post-intervention was higher than pre-intervention.The condom use rates at last commercial sex were 95.7% and 56.3% among CSWs at hotel/bath center(high level) and beauty bar/small hotel(low level) respectively(P0.005).The condom use rates at last commercial sex were 62.4% and 80.1% at baseline and post-intervention respectively(P0.005).Conclusions The condom use rate was low among CSWs at low level sites,such as beauty bars and small hotels.The comprehensive intervention could effectively raise AIDS KAP among CSWs in Lu'an city.
