Objective To invedtigate the surgical procedures and effects of treatment of hypertensive basal ganglia hemorrhage. Methods 35 paitients with hypertensive basal ganglia hemorrhage who were underwent the treatment through modified transpterional middle temporal gyrus approach were retrospectively analysed. Results The results of cranium CT scan within 24h after operation showed that the hematomas of 30 cases were renoved more than 90%, while 4 cases less than 70%, and 1 case was rehaemorrhagia. 34 paitients survived and 1 paitient died of rehaemorrhagia after operation. The survivors were evluated according to Glasgow coma score(GOS) follow-up for 6 months after operatinon: 18 cases of good recovery, 11 cases of moderate disablement, 3 cases evere disablement, 1 cases of persistent vegetative state, and 1 cases of death. Conclusion The clinical effect of the operation on the hypertensive basal ganglia hematonas through modified transpterional middle temporal gyrus approach is satisfactory, and it is characterized by thorough hemostasis after the operation, high hematoma removal rate, good nervous function recovery and so on.
