Application and study of brainstem auditory evoked polentials in neonatal hyperbilirubinemia

ZHAO Ming,SUN Su-xin(Department of Pediatrics,Fuyang People's Hospital,Anhui 236004,China)
Aim To explore the influence which bilirubinemia affects the auditory function of neonates,we measured brainstem auditory evoked polentials in neonatal hyperbilirubinemia. Methods BAEP was used to examine 49 hyperbilirubinemia newborns in hospital(98 ears). Results There were 27 cases(44 ears) of abnormal BAEP in neonatal hyperbilirubinemia, with the rate of 44.9%.As the improvement of bilirubinemia, abnormal BAEP were more and more. The waves were not clear or disappeared, with the prolongation of waves latency and latency between them. Conclusion Hyperbilirubinemia may cause hearing damage to neonates.BAEP is one of the effective approaches to the judgement and treatment of the disease.
