Application of narrow pedicle pectoralis major myocutaneous flaps in the surgery of maxillofacial tumors

Aim To explore the approaches and therapeutical effect of narrow pedicle pectoralis major myocutaneous flaps in repairing the tissue defects after the excision of tumor from maxillofacial region and summarize the clinical experience.Methods From January 2008 to March 2009,narrow pedicle pectoralis major myocutaneous flaps were adopted in the immediate reparation of ten cases of tissue defects resulting from the operation for oral and maxillofacial tumor.Afterwards,the author conducted observation and summary of these cases.Results All the narrow pedicle pectoralis major myocutaneous flaps survived with satisfactory appearance and function.Conclusion The operation of narrow pedicle pectoralis major myocutaneous flaps is easy to do,and the results are satisfactory.It can also effectively repair the extensive defects of oral and maxillofacial region.
