Aim To determine content of chrominum in the chromium-enriched pine pollen, and to explore the hypoglycemic effect of the chromium-enriched pine pollen and sugar tolerance in rats. Methods HNO3-HClO4 Wet Digestion was used to process organic chromium sample, and the content of chromium in the chromium-enriched pine pollen was determined by Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometry(AAS);Model of diabetic rats was established by caudal vein injection of alloxan. After a 15-day intragastric administration of the chromium-enriched pine pollen on these rats, glucose oxidase-peroxidase method was used to determine the glucose level in the blood, while after having received successive intragastric administration of the chromium-enriched pine pollen for 10 days, changes of blood sugar levels of normal rats were determined pre and post 30,60,120 mins respectively after intragastric administration of glucose solution at the dose of 2.0 g·kg-1.Results The standard curve of chrominum, tested by Atomic absorption spectrophotometry,is A=0.009 8C+0.006 2;three batches of chromium-rich Pollen content of chromium measured were 16.775 6,17.682 9,and 17.988 3 μg·g-1 respectively. The chromium-enriched pine pollen(1.12 g·kg-1)significantly reduced the blood sugar levels of diabetic rats induced by alloxan. The chromium-enriched pine pollen(1.12 g·kg-1)significantly reduced the blood sugar levels of normal rats as well, especially remarkable in hypoglycemic effect at 120 min with the chromium-enriched pine pollen(0.56 g·kg-1).Conclusion The average chromium content of three batches of chromium-rich pine pollen is 17.482 2 μg·g-1,and the chromium-enriched pine pollen has the hypoglycemic effect.
