Effects of Bushen Kangsong Pellet on Bone Mineral Density in Postmenopausal Osteoporosis

Objective:To explore the effects of Bushen Kangsong Pellet on bone mineral density(BMD) in postmenopausal osteoporosis.Methods: Eighty-four patients with postmenopausal osteoporosis were divided into two groups at random.The observed group was treated with Bushen Kangsong Pellet and calcium tablet,and the control group only with calcium tablet.The course of treatment was six months.Then the BMD in orthotope lumbar vertebra was measured with Dual Energy X-ray Absorptiometry(GE Lunar Prodigy).Results: Negative correlation was observed between BMD and the years of menopause through dependability analysis before treatment(r=-0.254,P0.05),but there was no correlation after treatment(r=-0.159,P0.05).The BMD of the observed group was significantly higher after treatment(t=3.976,P0.01).There was significantly statistics difference between two groups(t=3.297,P0.01;95% CI(0.010,0.042)).Conclusion: A tendency that the BMD of the patients in postmenopausal osteoporosis decreases year by year is observed,and Bushen Kangsong Pellet can reverse this tendency.BMD could not be increased when only treated with calcium tablet.
