Objective To observe the influence of electroacupuncture(EA) at Jiaji acupoints on the pain threshold in arthritis rats and investigate analgesic mechanism of EA by signal transduction pathway. Methods Arthritis rat model was induced with complete Freund's adjuvant(CFA).The effects of EA on pain threshold were observed. The contents of phosphorylation-p38 mitogen activated protein kinase(p-p38 MAPK) in the dorsal root ganglion(DRG) were determined using immunohistochemistry technology in all rats, and the expression of vanilliod receptor 1(VR1) in the rat DRG was assessed using westernblot. Results EA had an effect on the expression of p-p38 MAPK and VR1 in the rat DRG,it also increased the pain threshold of arthritis rats, while decreased the increased pain threshold of rats treated with receptor blocking pharmacon of p38.Conclusion The effects of EA on the threshold of arthritis induced pain are related with p-p38 MAPK-VR1 signal passageway.
