Effects of Electroacupuncture at "Weishu"(BL 21) and "Zhongwan"(CV 12) on Gastric Movement and Serum Levels of Motilin and Gastrin in Rats

Objective To observe whether or not there are synergistic effects of electroacupuncture(EA) at Shu-acupoint "Weishu"(BL 21) combined with Mu-acupoint "Zhongwan"(CV 12) in regulating gastric movement,and explore the mechanism.Methods Adult SD rats were randomly divided into control group,Zhongwan group,Weishu group,and Zhongwan plus Weishu group.The movement waves of rat gastric antrum were measured by self-made stress transducers.The serum levels of motilin and gastrin were assayed by radioimmunoassay.Results In comparision with those in the control group,the amplitudes of gastric movement were increased significantly in the three EA treated groups(P0.01);and they were statistically increased in Zhongwan plus Weishu group compared with those in Zhongwan group,and Weishu group(P0.01);EA had no significant effects on the frequency of gastric movement.Compared with those in the control group,the serum levels of motilin were significantly increased in Zhongwan group,and Zhongwan plus Weishu group(P0.05),and the serum levels of gastrin were significantly increased in Weishu group,and Zhongwan group(P0.05).Conclusion EA at "Weishu",and "Zhongwan",especially,EA at "Weishu" combined with "Zhongwan",can significantly strengthen rat gastric movement,suggesting that serum motilin and gastrin participate in regulative effects of EA at gastric Back-Shu and Front-Mu acupoints on gastric movement.
