Total saponins of panax ginseng reverse some plasmo phenotypesin human hepatoma cell line

Objective: To investigate the effects of total saponins of panax ginseng (TSPG) on the enzyme activity and protein synthesis in human hepatoma cell line HepG2 Methods: The specific activity of alkaline phosphatase (ALP) in cytoplasma was assayed by using ALP Kit based on Bessey method Alpha fetoprotein (AFP) in cytoplasma was determined qualitatively and quantitativelyby immunohistochemistry and ELISA Results: After treatment with 400μg/ml TSPG, the specific activity of ALP which reflected liver cell differentiation was significantly increased (P0 01), while the production of AFP, the liver cancermark protein, was significantly decreased (P0 01) Conclusions: These results indicated that TSPG could induce reverse changes of some plasmo phenotypes in the HepG2 cells, which could be considered as effects of differentiation induction
