Study on Essential Oil Obtained from the Seed of Leucas zeylanica

The essential oil from the seed of Leucas zeylanica was extracted by steam distillation,the components of the essential oil was separated and structurally identified by gas chromatography/mass spectrometry,and the relative contents of the components by the peak-area normalization method adopted in gas chromatography.56 components were separated from the essential oil of the seed,the major components of the essential oil were oleic acid(12.57%),hexadecanoic acid(10.36%),1-octene-3-ol(7.96%),caryophyllene(5.98%),2,4,6-trimethyl-1,3,6-heptatriene(5.63%),etc.The essential oil from the seed of Leucas zeylanica was investigated by anti-oxidation activities and antimicrobial activities.The essential oil had obvious action to anti-oxidation activities of scavenging effect for ·OH.The results of the antimicrobial activities of the essential oil inhibited the growth of testing bacteria especially against Escherichia coli ATCC25922 and Salmonella enteritidis 50040.
