An Analysis of Irony in the Cast of Amontillado from the Perspective of Speech Act Theory

This paper tries to make a tentative application of speech-act theory to the analysis of irony in The Cast of Amontillado.The analysis is done both from a macro-angle and from a micro-angle,aiming at exploring the various ironic speech acts in this novel.In this way,not only can the understanding of ironic speeches be deepened,but it also facilitates us to understand its ironic topic deeply and thoroughly.Thus,the spiritual communication and cooperation between the readers and the writer of this novel are achieved.
