Atriplex cana C. A. Mey is a half shrub in the Chenopodiaceae Family. This half shrub is an important forage resource in the semiarid areas of northwestern in China. Livestock graze this nutritious forage during late-autumn and winter. Investigations and experiments were conducted in the laboratory,on natural rangelands, and at cultivated sites without irrigation. Results of these various studies showed that Atriplex cana was resistant to drought, cold, salinity, and grazing. The best time for planting Atriplex cana is late-autumn and early spring.
