STUDY ON THE WOOD STRUCTURES AND PROPERTIES OF DABESHAN PINE (Pinus dabeshanensis Cheng et Law) IN DIFFERENT SITE HABITATS

The Dabeshan pine (Pinus dabeshanensis Cheng et Law) is a rare and very valuable species in eastern China. Sample trees were collected at Maoshan of Yuexi county of Anhui province. Systematic studies and measuremnts have been made on the anatomic and physico-mechanical properties of this pine wood.The results indicate that, due to the collections in different site habitats, the significant variations in gross features among the sample trees have been revealed, e. g. bark, width and colour of heartwood and sapwood, width of growth increment, late wood percentage, etc. But little variation has been found in microscopic features excpet for tracheid sizes along the line from early wood to late wood. Differences of physico-mechanical properties of the wood among different site habitats are not quite evident. The specifications on wood properties of Dabeshan pine arc close to that of Korean pine (Pinus Koraiensis).
