Experiment was carried out for different varieties of wheat. Seeds were treated 0-60 days at low temperature 1—3℃ separately to complete their vernalization process. Results obtained are as follows:1. The sequence of low temperature effects is: the differentiation of the cone growth was induced first, and this was especially for winter wheat; then was the promotion of the development of young spike, and the inhibition of the growth of vegetative organs. But for spring wheat low temperature treatments for vernalization only showed inbibitior effects.2. The content of ABA in young spike was determined by abscisic acid radioimmunoassay. It was found that the ABA content of the winter wheat was smaller than thatof the spring wheat and could be raised by venalization treatment.There seemed to be some reasons to believe that ABA is one of the important trigger for affecting the vernalization process on the development of plants. The reason that the winter wheat requirs low temperature is to induce the young spike to produce higher ABA content.
