Removal Cu~(2+) and Zn~(2+) from wastewater by modified bentonite

The adsorption of Cu2+,Zn2+ on Na-bentonite and organo-bentonite modified by cationic and anionic surfactants(sodium dodecyl sulphate,cetyltrimethylammonium bromide) was studied.The results showed that the adsorption of Cu2+ and Zn2+ was fitted with Langmuir equation,and the organo-bentonite modified by surfactants had a higher adsorption capacity than the Na-bentonite.The factors which affected the removal of Cu2+ and Zn2+ from wastewater were adsorption time,pH value,the amount of bentonite,temperature,and so on.When 5.0 g·L-1 organo-bentonite was added to treat the wastewater from the galvanization factory,the removal rates of Cu2+ and Zn2+ were 97.8% and 87.6%,respectively.
