Research of land use and soil erosion in upstream massif area of Huaihe river basin based on RS and GIS

In the support of the software of ArcGIS9,the method of overlay analysis was used to discuss the relations between the changes of land use and soil erosion in the massif region of upstream of the Huaihe river from the year of 1995 to 2000.The results showed that the changes of land use had a great effect on conservation of water and soil generally.The regions where the intensity of soil erosion have changed mainly occurs in these four types of land use,such as the paddy field,the arid land,the forest land and the lawn.Among them,the intensity of soil erosion had a drop obviously in the type of the forest land;The transformation among different types of land use had influence to the changes of soil erosion.The influence mainly reflected in the reduction of the soil erosion due to the transformation of farming land to forest land and construction land.
