The suitable fire-resistant tree species in the hill terrain between the Yangtze and Huaihe river

The fire-resisting properties of 15 broad-leaf tree species in the hill terrain between the Yangtze and Huaihe river were ordered,classified and evaluated,based on field studies and inlab determination,by means of regression analysis,fuzzy cluster analysis and multi-proposed decision-making.The results showed that these species can be classified into 4 groups based on their fire-resisting properties and economic characteristics:Class I(the strongest resistance)-Schima superba,which is the most widely used as a fire-resisting tree species in the southern and eastern parts of Anhui and in the southern Dabieshan mountainous region.Class II(strong resistance)-Camellia oleifera,Class III(relatively strong resistance)-Castanopsis causpidata,C.sclerophylla,Lithocarpus glaber,Cyclobalanopsis glauca,Camellia sinensis,Danphniphyllum macropodum,Cyclobalanopsis myrsinaefolia,Ligustrum lucidum,etc.and Class IV(weak resistance)-Pinus massoniana,P.elliottii,China fir,camphor trees,which can not be applied as fire-preventing trees,and on the contrary,they should be protected.
