Analysis of pentosan contents in twenty wheat varieties

Twenty wheat varieties,including Wanmai19,Zhengmai9023 and Wanmai48 were analyzed for the contents of total pentosan(TP),water-soluble pentosan(WSP)and Water-insoluble pentosan(WIP).All the variances of TP,WSP and WIP were highly significant among them.TP,WSP and WIP contents ranged from 1.86%~3.23%,0.63%~1.51% and 1.11%~1.87%,respectively.The means of TP,WSP and WIP were 2.54%,1.07% and 1.49%,respectively.Among the twenty wheat varieties,Zhengmai9405 contained the highest pentosan,while Wanmai47 and Wanmai48 contained the lowest one.The effects of different pentosan contents on the utilization and genetic improvement of wheat quality were discussed.
