The Wood Anatomical and Physical Properties of Metasequoia Glyptostroboides

The wood anatomical and pbysical properties of Metasequoia glyptostroboides Hu et Cheng werereported in this paper.ItS tracheid length was 3.565mm,tracheid width was 36.84μm,one of cellwall thickness was 7.7lμm,length-width ratio was 96.6,cell wall-lumina ratio was 0.76,flex-ible coefficient was 0.58,mrerofibrillar atigle within the S2 layer of secondary wall was 16.67°,ba-sic density was 0.275g/cm3.Within 17 years,its average year width was 5.8mm,latewood ratiowas 15.52%.The tracheid length,width,cell wall thickness,flexible coefficieint of the wood in-creased gradually from pitl to bark.meanwhilc length-width,microfibrillar angle decreased.Thebasic density decreased early,then increased slowly after 8 years old.It follows that,timber of thespecies is good materials for paper making.It can be reforested on beach land along Yantze Riverand low hill lands as well.
