Studies on the Characteristics of Root System in Pine-eucommia Mixed Stand

Xie Wenhua;Xu Xiaoniu and Li Hongkai(Anhui Agricultural University,Hefei 230036 )Zhang Daoming and Tang Hongwei(Forestry Bureau of Chuzhou City,Chuzhou 239000)
The root systems of pine-eucomia mixed stand ,pure pine stand and pure eucommia stand were investigated on their morphology, distribution ,and biomass. The results showed that the fine root(2mm in diameter)biomass and total root biomass were 26783.4kg/ha and 1177.3kg/ha in a 28-year-old pure pine stand ,22000.8kg/ ha and 51 85. 4kg/ ha in a 32- year-old pure eucommia stand, 30974.9kg/ha and 3991.7kg/ha in the pine-eucommia mixed stand in the same age, respectively. The fine root biomass per pine tree in the mixed stand was 26. 97%higher than that in the pure pine stand, and the fine root biomass per eucommia tree was 3.83% higher than that in the pure eucommia stand. The root system in the mixed stand, especially fine roots, distributed more reasonably and no repellency between pine roots and eucommia roots was oberved. Some jointed roots between the two species were observed.
