RECENT PROGRESS IN STUDY ON CATALYTIC REMOVAL OF AUTOMOBILE EXHAUST NOx UNDER LEAN-BURN CONDITIONS

Automobile exhaust NOX(mainly NO) is a major atmospheric pollutant. The aim of this paper is to review the study on the selective reduction of NOx with hydrocarbons and NOx storage reduction as well as the decomposition of NO under lean-burn conditions. The effects of various parameters on catalyst performance have also been discussed. The application of new support material of MFI(or MCM-41 .SAPO-34) zeolite enhances the performance of catalysts. Bifunctional catalysts exhibit high activity and selectivity due to synergistic effect of two active sites. The concept of nanostructured catalysts was found a wide range of application in NOx storage-reduction. The reaction mechanisms of removal of NOx are introduced. The major subjects to be continually investigated are presented.
