Correlation research between SARS' propagation incidence and concentration of inhalable particulates in air in Guangzhou

The present paper studys the relation between SARS spreading and air pollution. Based on the monitoring of the statistic results of air pollutants in Guangzhou and its surrounding cities since the SARS was induced and discovered in the area, the authors of this paper has been keeping their observation by comparing the air pollution situation with the incidence of SARS cases as well as the meteorological (or climatic change) data. Then the authors make a carefully designed analysis of the correlation between SARS propagation and the air pollution in Guangzhou and Hong Kong area. From the observation and statistical results, it is found that there does exist a significant correlation between the incidence of SARS and the concentration of inhalable particulates in the air five days before in Guangzhou. In addition, similar correlation was also done between the incidence of the SARS and the concentration of inhalable particulates in the air one-to-two days before in Hong Kong. Thus it can be concluded that there ought to exist some kind of close correlation between the SARS propagation incidence and the air pollution concentration.
