Quick paper-making wastewater treatment by TiO_2 photo-catalyzed oxidation

This paper aims to introduce the author's developed new method on treating straw pulp papermaking wastewater by means of photo-catalyzed oxidation TiO_2as the catalyst. The mechanism mainly involves a reaction between hydroxyl free radicals generated in the photo-catalyzed oxidation process and pollutants in the wastewater with the latter being degraded. Our experiments prove that the presence of a small amount of H_2O_2 can increase the disposal effect significantly. To prove the influence of such experimental parameters as pH value, the amounts of H_2O_2 and catalyst, the author has done careful studies on the COD_(Cr) removing rate together with the optimum reaction parameters, such as the initial pH value as 6.08, the amount of TiO_2as 0.03 g and H_2O_2concentration at 0.60% (V/V). The result is that it is necessary to irradiate the wastewater for 3 hours under a 300 W mercury light under the above said conditions to reach a COD_(Cr) removal rate of 96%. And consequently, the wastewater treated will be able to meet the environment-protection standard when released.
