Adsorption on Cu~(2+) of chitosan supported by bentoite

The article intends to introduce the authors' experimental study on a kind of absorber, which is made by chitosan and bentonite. The results indicate that the absorbing performance of the modified bentonite can be greatly increased as compared with that of unmodified one. The absorbing rate of Cu~(2+) can be as high as over 70% when the absorber is used to treat solution of Cu~(2+). The absorber has proved to have many advantages to the other absorbers of the similar sort, such as small in the dosage to be used, highly stable, easy in operation, as well as free from repeated pollution. The authors also studied the structure of bentonite and the mechanism for modification by means of X-ray diffraction. The results show that the structure of bentonitea remains unchanged but the chitosan is absorbed on the surface of bentonite.
