Effect of Ni~(2+) on the growth of Brassica Chinensis L and the mineral metabolism

This article is aimed to disclose the effect of Ni on the growth and metabolism of the mineral nutrients absorbed by the potted Brassica chinensis L leaves in different concentrations of Ni~(2+) (known as NiCl_2,Ni(NO_3)_2,and NiSO_4).The results of our experiments show that Ni~(2+) sprayed on the leaves helps to increase Ni content in the stems,leaves and roots remarkably.Adequate amount of NiCl_2 and Ni(NO_3)_2 may stimulate the dry matter accumulation but exces- sive amount of Ni would bring poisonous harm to the plant.More specifically speaking,the harmful effect of Ni on the stems and leaves proves higher than that on the roots,with the ratio of root's shooting decreased.In addition,Ni~(2+) proves to stimulate moisture physiologi- cal metabolism,and increase its water content of Brassica chinensis L stems,leaves and roots.Besides,adequate amount of NiCl_2 and Ni(NO_3)_2 contribute to the mineral nutrient elements' accumulation on Brassica chinensis L.However,excessive amount of Ni~(2+) would interfere with the metabolic balance of mineral nutrient elements.It is just due to the research results that have pushed us to suggest that ad- equate amount of Ni (NiCl_2 and Ni(NO_3)_2) is beneficial for vegetable growth.Based on the biomass reduction to 10%,the poison concen- tration due to its spraying has been ascertained to be 50 mg/L of NiCl_2 or Ni(NO_3)_2,though spraying NiSO_4 on leaves may result in some poisonous effect.
