Research advances in selective catalytic reduction of NO_x with lower hydrocarbon over transitional-metal supported catalysts

This paper intends to give a general review over the advances in SCR of NOx with lower hydrocarbon over transition metal supported catalysts in recent years.As is known,the nitrogen oxide removal from the mobile and stationary sources has been generally recognized as one of the most important and urgent targets in environmental protection.In the last decade,selective catalytic reduction(SCR) of NOx by lower hydrocarbon over transitional metal based catalysts has received close attention;due to the fact that lower hydrocarbons(≤C3) exist in almost all of the combustion exhausts,and transitional metals based catalysis with high catalytic activity prove much cheaper than noble metal catalysts.It is for this reason that the status of the catalysts for selective catalytic reduction of NOx by lower hydrocarbon,including metal-exchanged zeolites and metal oxides has also been introduced.In addition,the reaction mechanism and possible reaction intermediates have also been given a detailed discussion.In order to analyze the oxidation of NO to NO2 as the first step,the present author has made the formation of nitrogen-containing hydrocarbon intermediates,and that of nitrogen from the nitrogen-contained hydrocarbon intermediates.Along with the research work we have done,the methods and techniques used for improving catalytic activity were also briefly described.To be exact,methods used to improve the catalyst activities can be divided into two categories.One is the melioration of catalyst preparation while the other is to add some additives in the catalysts.For the new techniques that are found extensive use in selective catalytic reduction of NOx by lower hydrocarbon over transition metal based catalysts,it seems necessary for us to stress the plasma due to the formation of radicals and oxidation NO to NO2 because it is the key intermediates in the NO-SCR system.And,finally,we think it necessary to point out the difficulties for SCR of NOx by lower hydrocarbon and the research direction we should strive in the future.
