The Comparison of I THINK in COLEC and LOCNESS

In this paper,more than 2000 CET-4 and CET-6 compositions of Chinese college students' in a sub-corpus,the COLEC(474511 tokens),of the CLEC(Chinese Learner English Corpus) are to be examined against native learners' writing in the LOCNESS(Louvain Corpus of Native English Essays,181879 tokens) to examine the use of first person singular and mental verb I THINK.It can be observed from the data there are some subtle semantic distinctions underlying the uniform surface meaning I THINK in both Chinese learners and native learners of English.Four steps are taken in an effort to investigate the features that characterize learners' use of I THINK.First,to get the concordance lines containing the collocation of I and THINK(including all their relatively inflectional forms);Second,to re-select the concordances to make the lines include only the concordances required;Third,to read the concordance and analyze the concordance lines and form hypothesis.Fourth,to consolidate and revisit the bypothesis.
