Morphology and Clonal Growth and Reproduction of the Plant Rhizomes in Wetlands

SU Wenhui ZHANG Nan HOU Shaogang(Department of Chemical and Environment Engineering,Anyang Institute of Technology,Anyang 455000,China)
As the clonal reproduction organism for most wetland plants, rhizomes are characterized with their special micro-morphology,age structure and spatial distribution. The seasonal dynamics of nutrients and the strong colonization ability of rhizomes are adapted to the changeful wetland microhabitats. The clonal reproduc-tion is the main reproductive pattern for wetland plants for its advantage in evolution compared with sexual re-production.The morphological characteristics and clonal growth and reproduction of plant rhizomes in wet-lands are reviewed in this paper and the importance of rhizomes for wetland plant research are discussed in general.
