Primary Study on Pile-soil Mass Interaction

YANG Jing  
The loading state of laterally loaded pile is a 3 D problem. Based on the data of field experiment on Songlinpo Slope in Chongqing University, the approximate sphere of interaction between the pile and the soil around it is estimated. The results show that under the action of lateral force, not only the soil in front of the pile offers resistance, but the soil on both sides of the pile as well, which act with the pile as a whole due to the friction. It is estimated, that the sphere of the pile soil interaction is found within 30° on both sides of the pile and in double height of the pile in front of the pile. This gives a foundation for further study.
