Optimization Design of the Long Span Box Floor in Suzhou River Lock Project

The three-dimensional finite element method was used to solve some key problems in the design of the box floor in Suzhou River Estuarine Lock project. A three-dimensional finite element model of the whole structure was established, and the initial computational results indicate that the prestressed reinforced concrete scheme is not proper for the project. Then a simplified model was established for the box floor extracted from the whole model. A series of adjustments and analyses were carried out in this model to look for the optimization design. The comparison of the optimization scheme with the initial scheme indicated that the optimization could reduce the stress of the structure significantly without increasing the weight of the box floor.
