Research on Design Theory and Dynamic Construction Mechanics for Double-arch Highway Tunnel

With development of expressway in mountain areas, a great number of double arch highway tunnels have been constructed or under construction. Due to complication of the structure of such tunnel, usually, empirical comparative method was used for their design and construction in combination with dynamic construction mechanics analysis by FEA; then, the design is revised on monitoring of in-situ construction work for guiding the construction. In this paper, the design theory, monitoring on construction site and dynamic construction mechanical analysis for double arch highway tunnel in China are reviewed. Finally, the prospect for the problems in design and construction of double arch tunnel is given.
