Study on Mechanical Characteristics of Middle-wall in Twin-bore Connecting Arch Tunnel of the Express Highway

According to the Xiaojinkou twin-bore connection arch tunnel project of the Guanghui(Guangzhou-Huizhou) highway by the data of the measuring section 1-1 in the type II surrounding rock, the mechanical characteristics of the middle-wall in the twin-bore connecting arch tunnel have been deeply analyzed. It is found that the middle-wall bears mainly the weight of structural loading in the twin-bore connecting arch tunnel and bigger bearing capacity at the base of the middle-wall is required. The surrounding rock stress relaxation is not balanced from one side to the other side in the construction of the tunnel after three shakes in the top of the middle-wall, which result in the bigger eccentric loading in middle-wall and finally come into being eccentric-pressed tunnel. By analyzing the mechanical characteristics of the middle-wall, the style of the base of the middle-wall is put forward for the structural stability of the twin-bore connection arch tunnel.
