Bending Design for Concrete Beam Strengthened with Carbon Fibre Reinforced Plastics

Based on the current experimental study results and theory of concrete beams strengthened with carbon fiber reinforced plastics, with theoretical method based on the assumption of plane section, in this paper mainly the technologies of bending carbon fiber reinforced plastic (CFRP) plates or fabrics to the web of reinforced concrete beams are introduced, as well as considering the preloading effect to the bending capacity of the reinforced concrete beams. Analysis and investigation of the flexural strengthening capacity of concrete beams strengthened in bending with carbon fiber reinforced plastics are carried out. Finally, a kind of new practical method considering the preloading effect to the bending capacity of the reinforced concrete beams is put forward, the method can be used to design the concrete beams strengthened in bending with carbon fiber reinforced plastics, and the calculation results are agreed with the experimental results with reasonable reliability, which can be a reference for practical engineering designer.
