Discussion on the Key Techniques of Top-down Method in Soft Soil and Its Effects on the Surrounding

CHEN Pei-tai (Shanghai Tunnel Engineering & Rail Transit Design and Research Institute, Shanghai 200070, China)  
Based on the engineering project of the Dong'an Road Station of Shanghai Urban Rail Transit Line 4, some key techniques were introduced for the top-down method. These included the proper arrangement of the supporting system, auto-mechanical excavation of the soil, and disposal of key joints. Moreover, the effects of the construction by top-down method on the surrounding were discussed based on the monitored data.
