Present Status and Comment of Tunnel Single Shell Lining Study

This paper summarizes some research findings in respect of support forms,water resistant performance,smoothness and design method of single shell lining tunnels both at home and abroad.In addition,some new viewpoints have been put forward on this basis.Single shell lining has been applied in both hard and soft surrounding rock,the research objects of which mainly are the support forms and its practical application in several tunnels,however,in these objects there is lack of system study to the mechanism of action of single shell lining.The design methods include Q-system support design method based on NMT,limiting status design method and energy principle design method,etc,but the above given methods are all based on the design methods for the support structure itself,referring to concrete durability rarely.Therefore,it is necessary to do some further research on the mechanism of action and the design method of single shell lining to ensure the rationality and economical efficiency of the application of single shell lining in tunneling.
